Stone
Ramblers have produced a new book of walks covering the
villages around Stone. It is a high quality full colour
publication, with the primary objective of promoting
walking in the area for healthy recreation. Our aim is:-
To encourage
healthy walking and exploration of the countryside around
Stone.
To provide a wide
range of walks to enable people with varying abilities
and interests to enjoy walking at their own level.
To encourage
progression to longer walks as confidence increases,
perhaps making them personal or family challenges.
To encourage
further exploration of the footpath network around Stone.
The book contains 20+
walks ranging from 1.4 to 36 miles (the Challenge walk).
The walks are all divided up by waypoints which allow
readers to join and leave walks at easily identifiable
points.
Each walk starts from a
village on a bus route and with a car parking place.
Clear descriptions help the walker to enjoy the routes
without the need for map reading skills. All the
footpaths and bridleways used are public Rights of Way,
mostly clearly waymarked.
All the walks are easy for
any averagely fit person if taken at a leisurely pace,
but we would class the longer walks as moderate requiring
a little more fitness and the Challenge Walk as strenuous
if it is done in 1 or 2 days.
The idea is to encourage a
gradual build up of fitness and stamina, if you are unfit
to begin with.
Lists are given of bus
routes, refreshment stops and outdoor shops which may be
useful and general advice given to walkers.
The contributors are all
experienced members of the Ramblers Association. The
Association seeks to help everyone to enjoy walking in
the Countryside, to foster care and understanding of the
countryside, to protect rights of way, to secure public
access on foot to open country and to defend the natural
beauty of the countryside.
